Fitness for service assessment of two 10” multiphase production pipelines, one of which had previously been out of service.
This work involved a comprehensive analysis of the intelligent pig results from both an immediate and future integrity perspective including the determination of corrosion growth rates. Specifically we were required to examine long-term integrity options including inspection, repair or sectional replacement and to determine the most cost beneficial solution to allow pipeline re-start and long term operation.
The inspection report was delivered over a holiday period and required a fast turn-around. Our engineers worked through the period to ensure the analysis and report could be expedited to meet the client’s needs. Further challenges included the fact that this was the first inspection of the pipelines with limited other inspection data available.
A comprehensive assessment was successfully delivered which included Finite Element Analysis of critical defects and also concept engineer for future life options.
The ultimate outcome of the work was that the regulator was engaged and the pipeline successfully re-started. Options for long term integrity were developed and accepted and implemented by the client; the net result was considerable production capacity increase combined with assurance of the integrity of the pipeline.
